What is a Giclee Print?
Giclee, (pronounced "ghee-clay") is from the French verb gicler, meaning "to squirt" or "to spray" and describes a high-resolution large-format advanced technology specifically for fine art reproduction. Images are produced on a computerized ink jet printer with the capability to output a variety of sizes without compromising detail or color vibrancy. This exceedingly accurate printmaking process produces over four million microscopic droplets per second using archival, fade-resistant, water based inks lasting 80 to 100 years. These droplets combine to form millions of colors on fine art papers, canvas or etching paper. This allows for a high degree of fine detail, virtually identical to the original image.
